1*Joseph Hawes came to America from England as a young man.
He came from a good, working class family and probably came to the U.S.
to better his lot in life. He was successful in that endeavour and was a man
of property and culture at his death. The deeds show that he bought and sold
numerous parcels of land in both Parma and Concord. He died in Concord
just below the border with Parma Township and had a frame house,
several outbuildings and more than 160 acres. His wife, Mary Ann,
continued to live on this property until her death in 1930.
